A "SURFING MECCA" IN SIARGAO ?

Ce n’est pas nouveau, pour ceux qui vivent ici ce n’est pas un scoop, Siargao est depuis longtemps une destination pour les fans du surf.

Mais, comme je l’expliquais dans un autre post, les quelques professionnels qui connaissent la ‘’Cloud 9’’ souhaitaient se la garder pour eux. Quelques poignées de spécialistes qui ne souhaitaient pas voir ce lieu envahi par la foule.

De plus ce n’est pas uniquement une destination ‘’surf’’, c’est également une destination pêche au gros, escalade, varappe et plongée.

Mais la tranquillité de Siargao risque fort d’être quelque peu troublée, plusieurs projets touristiques sont sur le point de se réaliser. Je reviendrai sur ce sujet dans un prochain post.

A Mindanao beach hailed by the Tourism department as a “surfing mecca” has been named among the top 10 surf spots in the world.

Cloud Nine in Siargao, Surigao del Norte ranked 9th in the “World’s 50 best surf sports” recently released by CNN Travel.

“This dramatic and powerful reef break, which crashes onto shallow razor-sharp coral, offers right and left death rides,” CNN said.

The Siargao surf spot is the only Philippine beach in the top 10, and is only one of three Southeast Asian beaches.

The two other beaches from Southeast Asia are both from Indonesia: Uluwatu and Kuta in Bali (4th) and Lance's Right in Sumatera Barat (10th).

Pipeline beach in Oahu, Hawaii topped the list, followed by Supertubes beach in South Africa, and Teahupo’o in French Polynesia.

Rounding out the list of top 10 beaches were P-Passin the Federated States of Micronesia (5th), Maverick’s in California (6th), Hossegor  in France (7th) and Puerto Escondido in Mexico (8th).

The list was based on recommendations CNN gathered from its editors, professional surfers as well as editors of Surfing Magazine.

Siargao Island is dubbed the “surfing capital of the Philippines” but the Tourism department says it is “not all about surfing.”

“It’s also well known for game fishing. In fact, a game fishing event is held every summer,” the Tourism department said in its website.

Siargao’s coast also abounds with tuna, mackerel, marlin, and even crabs, squids, octopus, and sting rays, the government feature said further.

The island has also been named one of the 25 emerging tourism hot spots in the country by international consultancy firm Isla Lipana & Co.

“Apart from surfing, Siargao is also open to other activities such as cave explorations and rock climbing,” the firm said in its Philippine Gems site.

Je tiens à préciser, pour ceux à qui le nom de Mindanao ferait peur, que l’île de Siargao, qui se situe sur la façade Océan Pacific de l’archipel, est dans la province de Surigao del Norte, tout au Nord-est, à l’opposé de Zamboanga et de la partie réputée dangereuse de Mindanao.
